Enrol on this course to explore and experience the wonder of Raku, develop projects that will be fired using glazes in the Raku Kilns by the end of the course.
If you already have some experience in Raku or have completed the Entry 2 course then this is the course for you!
Course information
This course aims to develop your Raku hand building skills and firing knowledge. During the course you will cover -
- studio safety and complete a health and safety induction to the wonder of Raku
- how to make a simple pinch pot out of clay
- how to create a simple clay form using the equipment safely
- developing techniques by the method of group discussion
- discovering the history of Raku via group research and discussion
- creating a hand-built ceramic piece that you will then refine and decorate
- how to apply a range of raku glazes
- the theory of Raku firing, including how to clean up your work
- firing your completed pieces in the outdoor Raku kiln, includes cleaning and finishing touches
You will gain a qualification in NCFE Entry 3 Creative Crafts.
Entry requirements
- You must be 19 or over to enrol on this course
- This course is suitable for those with good hand building knowledge who wish to develop new skills. This is an ideal progression course from the Entry 2 qualification
