The following fee remissions apply to any individual who falls into one or more of the categories listed below -
Unemployed Individuals
For funding purposes, the Department for Education (DfE) defines a learner as unemployed if one or more of the following apply -
- You receive Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA), including those receiving National Insurance credits only
- You receive Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
- You receive Universal Credit (UC), and your take-home pay (as recorded on your UC statement, disregarding UC payments and other benefits) is -
- Less than £952 per month (if you are the sole adult in your benefit claim), or
- Less than £1,534 per month (if you have a joint claim with your partner)
- You receive other state benefits (listed below), and your take-home pay is less than the above thresholds -
- Housing Benefit
- Working Tax Credit
- Income Support
- Council Tax Reduction (not including single person discount)
Employed or Self-Employed Individuals
If you are employed or self-employed and earn below £25,000 annual gross salary, you may qualify for fee remission.
You must provide evidence at the time of enrolment, such as -
- A wage slip dated within the last 3 months, or
- Your most recent HMRC tax return
First Full Level 2 or Level 3 Qualification (Ages 19 to 23)
If you are aged between 19 and 23 and undertaking your first full Level 2 or Level 3 qualification, you may be eligible for fee remission.
Discretionary Learner Support Fund
If you do not qualify for any of the above fee remissions but have a household income of less than £35,000, you may still be eligible for help through the Discretionary Learner Support Fund.
This fund can support you with the cost of -
- course fees
- books and learning materials
- equipment
- travel expenses
- visits related to your course
- exams
- childcare
The DLS fund is designed to help you overcome financial difficulties and successfully achieve your qualification.
