With the support of an experienced ceramics tutor, you will develop an understanding of posture, hand positioning, control, and rhythm on the wheel.
There is a strong emphasis on learning through repetition, helping you to build muscle memory and confidence while understanding that trial and error is a natural part of the throwing process.
Course information
By the end of the seven weeks you will have -
- A clear understanding of essential wheel-throwing techniques
- Improved hand-eye co-ordination and clay control
- Experience creating a small range of simple cylinders
- Introductory knowledge of glazing
- The confidence to continue practising or progress onto an intermediate throwing course
This seven-week beginner's throwing ceramics programme is ideal for learners with no prior experience of using the potter's wheel. The course offers a structured, supportive introduction to wheel throwing, focusing on building confidence, co-ordination, and core technical skills at an accessible pace.

Thursday - 3.5 hours per week over 7 weeks (including induction)
