The aim of this course is to prepare learners to become early years educators, enabling them to work with children from birth to 5 years and gain knowledge of children 5 to 7 years.
Upon achievement of this qualification, it is intended that the learners will be able to enter the workforce as early years educators. If you’re interested in a fulfilling and challenging career in childcare within an Ofsted-regulated environment, this course would be great for you.
Course information
This course is suitable for people wishing to participate in provisions in early years settings and allows learners to gain an understanding of the provision of childcare available in early years settings.
During this course you will cover -
- the value of play for babies and young children
- management and organisation in an early years setting
- roles and responsibilities in an early years setting
- supporting the physical, social and cognitive development of young children and babies
- imaginative and play based learning techniques
- encouraging language and literacy skills
- promoting independence
Entry requirements
- You must be 19 or over to enrol on this course
- GCSE Grade (D/3) and above in maths and English (or equivalent).
- You must be working, volunteering or on practical placement as you will need to show competence in both knowledge and skills. You need to complete 350 hours of placement whilst undertaking this qualification. Your placement needs to allow for skills application with babies and young children to meet the assessment criteria for this qualification
- You will be required to have a DBS to support your placement. We can help you to apply for this but you must have a form of photo ID and the relevant documentation to complete it as per Government regulations
- You will need access to a computer and internet as you will need to complete assignments and produce an electronic portfolio

6 hours per week over 2 years (term time only)
