This workshop is specifically for learners that have not attended a Raku workshop previously and is ideal if you are interested in experimental processes and alternative firing methods.
Course information
During this workshop you will explore the exciting and unpredictable process of raku ceramics.
You will be given two pots to glaze, using specifically selected raku glazes. Your tutor will then carry out the raku firing, guiding you through each stage of the process.
The firing includes the dramatic removal of pots from the kiln whilte hot and the reduction process that creates unique surface effects.
Throughout the session, your tutor will explain the raku process, it's history, and the element of alchemy involved - where fire, smoke, glaze, and chance come together to produce unexpected and striking results.
Every piece is one of a kind, with crackle patterns, metallic finishes, and smoky markings that make raku so distinctive.
For health and safety reasons, only the tutor will fire and handle the hot pots. Learners will be required to remain at a safe distance during the firing process.
