Hull Training and Adult Education hosted its annual Meet the Employer event on Thursday, 12 February, which staff described as the ‘best turnout ever’.

Hull Training and Adult Education welcomed 16 employers and over 200 registered attendees, not including walk-ins, from current and prospective young and adult learners, as well as local employers.

Engagement across employer stands remained consistently high, with particularly strong interest in construction and trade employers, where queues formed throughout the event as discussions centred around apprenticeships, work experience, career pathways and progression routes.

Overall, the event showed strong learner ambition and readiness to progress into work or further training and strengthened the relationships between Hull Training and Adult Education and local employers.

Logan McNee, 16, is studying Level 1 Joinery and is seeking an employer said

“It was a really useful and informative event, I found several employers that are of interest who offered great advice and demonstrated opportunities for me.

“I came with three friends to find out more about joinery and we went around three times since there was a good variety for everyone and it was great to be able to talk directly with the employers.”

Declan Lill from Hull & East Yorkshire Mind said -

“A few people showed interest in business apprenticeships which has been really positive. It was been a great atmosphere - we had a really nice mix of interest.”

“There was lots of engagement. A lot of our apprentices will be going to Hull Training and Adult Education’s Construction Centre, so it’s nice for them to have a look at open workshops. They made the effort to attend because they are genuinely interested - it’s not just a day out, it’s real life and real futures.”

JC Services, health and safety officer, Vikki Moy, added -

“It was absolutely packed - we didn’t stop making gift bags! We genuinely had really good prospective learners interested and asking about work experience and what we do. There were a lot of conversations about next steps too and we also noticed more adult learners enquiring about adult apprentices. It’s something we have done in the past and great to have the interest in it again.”
