Learners came together for information sessions ahead of their fully funded Turing Scheme placements to South Africa and Greece

Learners from Hull Training and Adult Education recently attended information sessions ahead of their fully funded overseas placements through the Turing Scheme. The groups included learners travelling to South Africa as part of their Early Years and Teaching Assistant courses, and those heading to Greece from the Ceramics course. It was a great chance for everyone to meet each other, ask questions, and get a feel for what their trips will involve.

During the sessions, staff talked learners through the key details they’ll need before travelling, such as how the journeys will work, where they’ll be staying, and what to expect day to day. There was also plenty of excitement as they shared more about the cultural visits and sightseeing planned for each location. Learners also found out more about the purpose of each placement. Those travelling to South Africa will be spending time in early childhood settings and schools, learning about different approaches to childcare, teaching, and community education. It’s a fantastic chance to experience how early years provision can vary across cultures, while building confidence and new professional skills.

Meanwhile, the group heading to Greece will be exploring one of the world’s most historically rich centres for pottery and craftsmanship. Their placement will give them hands-on experience with traditional and modern ceramic techniques, inspiring their creativity and helping them develop their artistic practice in a completely new environment.

Thanks to £104,000 of government-backed funding through the Turing Scheme, all major costs, including travel, accommodation, visas, and daily living expenses, are fully covered, making these international opportunities accessible to learners from all backgrounds.
