A creative, inspiring introduction to clay - designed exclusively for learners with no previous hand-building experience.
Course information
During the first five studio-based weeks, you will build essential skills for shaping, forming, refining, and decorating your own hand-built pieces - with clear demonstrations and supportive tutor guidance throughout.
Alongside practical ceramics techniques, you will be introduced to the 'Learn it, Make it, Sell it' approach, exploring how creative skills can support progression into enterprise, self-employment and the sale of handmade products.
Week six, you will apply widely used Raku glazes and have the opportunity to watch an unforgettable tutor-led Raku firing - a dramatic, atmospheric process that results in stunning, one-of-a-kind finishes.
For health and safety reasons, only the tutor will fire and handle the hot pots. Learners will be required to remain at a safe distance during the firing process.
Week seven provides dedicated time to finish work, reflect on your progress, and complete course documentation.
This course is tailored to those who have not previously completed any ceramics courses.
