This autumn marks an exciting new chapter for HTAE as we bring together three of our learning centres into Hull City Council's new Centre for Learning on George Street.
The move will see our Business Centre, Engineering Centre and Avenues Adult Education Centre come together in a modern city-centre hub dedicated to education, skills, apprenticeships and workforce development. Alongside Hull Training and Adult Education, the building will also become home to Hull City Council's Learning and Development Service, creating a connected environment that supports learners, employers and staff alike.
As we prepare to welcome learners to the new Centre for Learning, one of the most common questions we are asked is:
How do I get there?
The good news is that the city-centre location provides a wide range of travel options, making it accessible whether you travel by bus, train, bike, on foot or by car.
A central location for learning
Located on George Street, the Centre for Learning sits in the heart of Hull city centre, close to Hull Paragon Interchange and within easy reach of public transport, city-centre parking and active travel routes.
The new facility represents a significant investment in lifelong learning, skills development and apprenticeship training, bringing together courses and services that support people at every stage of their learning journey.
Whether you are attending a maths, English or digital skills course, learning English as a second language, studying for a vocational qualification, developing a creative hobby, completing an apprenticeship or accessing workforce development training, the Centre for Learning is designed to provide an accessible and welcoming place to learn.
Travelling by bus
For many learners, travelling by bus will be one of the easiest ways to get to the Centre for Learning.
Hull's bus network provides regular services into the city centre from across Hull and the surrounding area, with most routes serving Hull Paragon Interchange. The centre is only a short walk from the interchange, making onward travel simple and convenient.
Services operate from:
• East Hull and Surrounding Villages via Holderness Road and Hedon Road
• Bransholme/Kingswood via Beverley Road, Holderness Road, James Reckitt Avenue and Stoneferry.
• West Hull and Surrounding Villages via Anlaby Road, Hessle Road, Boothferry Road and Spring Bank
• North Hull via Beverley Road, Cottingham Road, Bricknell Avenue and Newland Avenue.
• South of the city including Barton-upon-Humber and communities across the Humber

Travelling by train
The Centre for Learning is within walking distance of Hull Paragon Interchange, which combines both rail and bus services in one location.
Regular train services operate between Hull and destinations including Leeds, York, Sheffield, Doncaster, Scarborough and London, making the centre accessible for learners travelling from outside the city.
Simply follow city-centre pedestrian routes from the interchange to George Street.

Walking to the centre
If you live or work close to the city centre, walking may be a practical option for all or part of your journey.
Walking helps improve physical health and wellbeing while reducing travel costs and environmental impact. The city's pedestrian network provides easy access from surrounding streets, the railway station and nearby bus stops.
For learners combining public transport with walking, the short walk from Hull Paragon Interchange makes this an excellent option.
Cycling
Cycling is another great way to travel to the Centre for Learning.
The building benefits from dedicated cycling facilities, including secure cycle parking, showers, drying facilities and locker space, helping learners and staff travel actively and comfortably.
If you are interested in cycling but do not currently have access to a bike, support is available through the council, including -

Hull City Council has also produced a new cycle map for the city, which is available to download. Printed copies can be collected from the Centre for Learning reception and other council buildings, including libraries, leisure centres and customer service centres.
Cycling can help save money, improve fitness and reduce congestion while supporting a more sustainable city.
Learners and visitors can also sign up to BetterPoints Hull, a free rewards programme that encourages active and sustainable travel. Participants can earn points and rewards for walking, cycling, using public transport and choosing other sustainable travel options.

Car sharing
Where travelling by car is necessary, car sharing can be a good alternative.
Sharing journeys with friends, colleagues or fellow learners can help reduce fuel costs, parking demand and congestion while making travel more affordable.

A range of city-centre parking options are available within walking distance of the Centre for Learning.
Several nearby car parks provide convenient access, and learners can choose from a variety of short-stay and long-stay parking options depending on their needs.

Blue Badge parking
Disabled parking is available throughout Hull city centre, with a number of on-street Blue Badge spaces located close to the Centre for Learning.

Electric Vehicle Charging EV Charging
Learners travelling by electric vehicle can use nearby charging facilities.
Four 7kW charging points are available at the Hull History Centre car park and can be accessed through the Evolt app. Standard parking charges apply. Chargers are also available at Lowgate.

Supporting sustainable travel
The Centre for Learning is more than a new building. It is a modern learning hub designed to support education, skills development, apprenticeships and workforce growth across Hull.
As part of Hull City Council's commitment to creating a healthier and more sustainable city, learners and visitors are encouraged to consider the full range of travel options available to them. Walking, cycling and public transport can all play an important role in reducing congestion, improving air quality and supporting wellbeing, while still providing convenient access to learning opportunities.
The council's Travel Hub highlights the benefits of active and sustainable travel and encourages people to consider alternatives for at least part of their journey. Visitors can also join BetterPoints Hull, which rewards people for choosing sustainable travel options such as walking, cycling and public transport.
A new home for learning
The Centre for Learning brings together adult education, apprenticeships, technical training and workforce development opportunities under one roof, creating a modern space where learners can develop skills, gain qualifications and build confidence for the future.
While the Centre for Learning will become Hull Training and Adult Education's main city-centre hub, courses will continue to be delivered from community venues across the city, alongside provision at the Construction Centre on Nursery Grove and the Preston Road Adult Education Centre at the Freedom Centre.
