Painting and decorating apprentices have been using their skills to support Hull Women’s Aid by helping to renovate a property that will provide a safe and welcoming space for those who need it most.

Level 1 learners and Level 2 apprentices volunteered their time to support the refurbishment project, gaining valuable hands-on experience while making a positive contribution to the local community.

Working alongside tutors Matt Bibby and Joe Smith, the learners and apprentices applied their skills in a real-life environment, helping Hull Women's Aid create an important resource for women and families accessing its services. The project also provided valuable opportunities to build confidence and develop practical experience outside the classroom.

Amanda Skinner, Construction Manager at Hull Training and Adult Education, said: "We are incredibly proud of our learners and apprentices for the commitment and professionalism they have shown throughout this project. It has given them valuable real-world experience while making a meaningful difference to the local community.

"We are also grateful to the employers who supported their involvement and helped make this possible."

Sian Evington, Office Manager at Hull Women's Aid, said: "I would like to thank Matt and Joe for their kindness and enthusiasm in supporting our request. We really appreciate it.

"The learners have made such an improvement to the property. We really do feel everyone's hard work will make a profound impact on every woman and her family who stay in the house, supporting them on their journey to independence and a life free from fear.

"On behalf of everyone at Hull Women's Aid, we would like to extend our sincere thanks to the painting and decorating learners, apprentices and tutors from Hull Training and Adult Education for their incredible hard work in renovating our property.

"We are also immensely grateful to the local employers who generously supported their apprentices' involvement in this initiative.

"By committing your time and expertise, you have transformed this building into a safe, welcoming and beautiful environment. This community effort has created a vital sanctuary that will make a real difference in the lives of those who use our services.

"Thank you for your outstanding support and dedication."

The learners involved in the project were Charlie Stretton, Tommy Alexander, Liam Wray, Brandon Walkington, Shannon Lindop, Lexi Reeve, Mia Clarkson, Jayden Goodfellow and Kaci Riley.

HTAE would like to thank the employers who supported their learners in taking part: Lightowler, Pittaway, N Hirst, Hodgson Decorators and Adrian Flowers. Their support helped make this important community initiative possible.

Hull Training and Adult Education remains committed to providing opportunities for learners to develop skills, gain industry experience and play an active role in their communities.
