Backed by £1 billion from DWP, a major employment drive will help to unlock 200,000 new jobs and apprenticeships for the next generation.

Hull Training and Adult Education has welcomed the government’s recent announcement surrounding jobs and apprenticeships.

The major employment drive will reverse rising numbers of young people neither earning nor learning, after a 37% increase between 2021 and 2024.

The additional £1 billion is to be invested in grants to help unlock over 200,000 paid jobs for young people, with the Jobs Guarantee to be expanded to ages 18 to 24.

Welding in particular is fantastic news for Hull Training and Adult Education, which will be delivering Welder Level 2 apprenticeships from autumn 2026 following its move to Hull City Council’s new Centre for Learning later this year.

The government also announced in March a non-levy incentive of up to £2,000 for employers, typically SMEs, who take on 16-24-year-old apprentices as new employees from 1 October 2026, which will provide local employers with additional support to meet their recruitment requirements

The long-awaited launch for the new Level 2 Administrative Assistant apprenticeship has also been announced, specifically for those aged 16 to 24, from 1 August 2026.

Adam Wilson, senior lead business developer and contracting at Hull Training and Adult Education, said -

“This government announcement will open up further opportunities for Hull Training and Adult Education.

“Young people are the future of our businesses and our economy, so the more opportunities they have, the better our future looks.

“The announcement also came at a great time for Hull Training and Adult Education as we prepare to welcome interest from employers ahead of the launch of our new Welder Level 2 apprenticeships this autumn as we prepare to move to the new Centre for Learning.”
