HTAE hosted a vibrant programme of events across the city to mark International Women’s Week, bringing together learners, community members and partners creative, cultural and wellbeing activities
Hull Training & Adult Education (HTAE) hosted a vibrant programme of events across the city last week to mark International Women’s Week, bringing together learners, community members and partner organisations for a series of creative, cultural and wellbeing activities.
Running from Tuesday 3rd March to Friday 6th March, the programme included Pilates, crafting sessions, cultural discussions and hands‑on workshops at The Avenues Adult Education Centre, Summit Education Society and the Hull Turkish Community Centre. The open and welcoming nature of the events encouraged participation from people of all backgrounds, not just women, helping to create a warm and inclusive community atmosphere.

The activities proved to be a gateway to learning for many attendees, with more than 30 people enrolling onto HTAE courses throughout the week. Among them was a newly formed group from the Turkish Centre, who engaged enthusiastically in the sessions and expressed interest in continuing their learning journey.
Rachel Nolan, ESOL Manager, reflected on the success of the programme, saying:
“We had a fantastic time celebrating International Women’s Week last week, taking part in a range of workshops from Pilates and crafting to coffee and cake. We also had inspiring discussions about women from around the world.
We are delighted to share that over 30 people enrolled, and we’re excited to welcome new learners onto further HTAE courses, including a wonderful group of people from the Turkish Centre.
It has been lovely to connect with so many people, take time out to chat and get to know each other in a relaxed and friendly environment.
A huge thank you to everyone who has been part of this inspiring week!”

The week featured a wide variety of sessions, including -
- Inspirational Women’s Discussion and Crafts
- Women’s Wellbeing and Pilates (open to all attendees)
- Felting crafts at the Hull Turkish Community Centre
- Paper cutting and Sewing workshops at The Avenues Adult Education Centre
- And the main International Women’s Day Celebration Event 2026 on Friday 6th March, with cultural displays, shared food, creative activities and learning opportunities.
The celebrations showcased HTAE’s commitment to inclusive, community‑focused learning, encouraging people to come together, develop new skills and explore the history and achievements of women around the world.
Free entry and welcoming spaces helped ensure that everyone who wanted to take part could do so, reinforcing the message that International Women’s Day is a moment for the whole community to learn, reflect and connect.
