HTAE's engagement lead for construction, Louise Greene, was on hand to share a valuable insight from her day-to-day work with learners as part of Women in Construction Week
Hull Training and Adult Education’s engagement lead for construction, Louise Greene, was on hand to share a valuable insight from her day-to-day work with learners as part of Women in Construction Week.
A panel event hosted by Hobson & Porter at Airco Hull brought together range of industry voices to explore how the sector can better support women entering and progressing within construction careers.
Louise was part of the panel who provided an insight with learners preparing to take their first steps in the industry.
She explained that many young women she supports often worry about joining a sector where only a small percentage of the workforce is female and how this affects their confidence when choosing construction as a career path.
Louise said -
“Being invited to take part in the panel gave me the opportunity to speak about the issues young ladies discuss with me when they are ready to take their first steps into the industry.
“A common theme is about their concerns going into an industry with only 15 per cent of female representation and how they will ‘fit in’.
“I’m passionate about everybody being able to find their own place in their dream career.
“By breaking down barriers and starting conversations, I’m hoping that we will see an increase in women finding their passion in the construction industry.”
The event served as a reminder that meaningful change happens when the sector comes together with purpose and Louise’s contribution echoed many of the themes raised throughout the event, including the need for more visible female role models, stronger support systems on site and clearer pathways into skilled roles.
With employers across the region facing significant skills shortages, the panel stressed the importance of ensuring women feel welcome, valued and well supported at every stage of their construction journey.
As a local training provider, Hull Training & Adult Education remains committed to supporting learners of all ages and genders.
It is uniquely placed to help bridge those gaps, not only by equipping learners with the technical skills they need, but by working closely with employers to foster environments where women can thrive.
