Course Aims

This course will enable you to throw confidently and further develop your knowledge.  You will learn how to throw a bowl and plate and decorate them using underglazes and glaze.

Entry Requirements

This is for throwers who have completed the New to Throwing course and can throw a cylinder on the potter’s wheel.

Course Content

During this 12-week course, you will increase your knowledge and techniques in throwing.  You will learn how to throw plates and bowls.

You will complete the following:

  • Throwing
  • Trim bases (feet)
  • Apply decoration
  • Apply glazes

Assessment Method

This is a RARPA based course, assessment is carried out though building of a portfolio and taking part within tasks matched to the individual’s personal targets.

RARPA stands for Recognising and Recording Progress and Achievement which is the process of assessment for non-accredited learning. It is a means of validating the outcomes of programmes which do not result in qualifications. RARPA is a five-stage process which measures and records learners’ progress, achievements and attendance.

You could progress on to one of our other pottery courses or take a qualification.
